The first class was tough but I made it out of sheer stubbornness. The first 15 basics were a memory test, despite making a mistake almost every time. Then there was yellow to aspire to... I spent…Continue

Outside the Dojo

Its been a while since I've been in the dojo for class, but that doesn't mean it's time to stop practicing.Baby is due May 16. I'd like to say everything has been graceful, sunshine and rainbows, but I have a new respect for the mothers who have come before me. It's been hard in unexpected ways and easier in others. Everything I learned in the dojo has helped. Breathing, how to stay active at your fitness level, mental focus, daily discipline, intentional smiles on grumpy days, emptying the…See More

Belt Testing and Promotions with Kyoshi Joslin at "Coloma Community Center"

May 2, 2012 from 6pm to 7pm
This is a very special day for a few very special folks. At belt testings we take a look at the students who are ready to test and be awarded their new Isshinryu Ranks. Kyoshi Ron Joslin will be our special guest this time! At this ceremony, we have Tiny Tigers and Little Dragons testing for their black-belts as well as our first adults testing for their Brown-Belts in Isshinryu. It's traditional for ALL students to come to a dojo belt testing ceremony. Let's all learn together and show our…See More

Reflecting

The beginning of the new year is always a great time for reflection. This last week in particular has been full of meditation.Looking back on the last year, specifically the UBBT, I took on too much and too little at the same time. What I mean is I was capable of everything I committed to, but I was overconfident in my response to the unexpected life challenges. It was a big year last year. Just a few of the life changes: committed to UBBT Team 7, scheduled my life around the new goals, got…See More

Dojo Visit

For the last two weeks, dad and I were in Florida helping my brother move in to his new home. There was lots to do! Three of the four major projects were finished with headway on the fourth. It was also a great vacation. The highlight was visiting a local Shorin-Ryu dojo. Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do was the name. Renshi Geoffrey Gaudoin was kind enough to allow me to attend adult class. The night arrives. Always show up early. Why? Stretching is good but watching the kids class was my…See More

UBBT Update

Journal entries have slowed down because there hasn't been much to update. Numbers are pitifully behind. Life is tipsy turvy. And everything is just as it should be.Character building has been the focus of June and July. The first two codes of bushido are on my mind of late. #1: Rectitude: To do the right thing. #2: Bravery: To have courage when faced with a challenge. These two principles have served as guides when mediating in the recent weeks. It was less about who was right and therefore…See More

It was a great morning--nice to meet the folks down there. The kids did great.  Good idea to journal about it--I was wondering what I was going to write about.

LOL!  Yes, a "none" belt is odd.  I wasn't sure what to choose when I created my profile.  I joined because I want better physical fitness, focus, mental discipline, and self defense.

Hi Lisa. Yes my Gi is from Judo. Definately better for grappling. I'm sure in the future I will purchase a different one due to the warmer weather. Sorry for such a late response. I'm trying to fix up my house, so I am always working on something!
