Distance Learning Pod In-Person All-Day Learning Camp
Facilitate your child's Distance Learning
Parents! We know that you have to get to work, but your child is faced with tackling distance learning with their public school teacher. We’ve got you covered with our in-person Distance Learning Camp.
The Zen Martial Arts Heritage School Learning Camp is being facilitated by a professional educator with over 30 years of experience, most recently as a program director at the Discovery Science Museum. Our goal is to provide a safe space for your child to focus on their distance learning.
Drop your child off between 8:45am and 9:00am where—after their temperature check, face mask verification, and hand cleansing—they will be directed to their social distanced workstation where their basic school supplies, pre-configured Chromebook laptop and headphones will be waiting for them.
Helping your family adapt to the new normal
Facilitate Distance Learning
The new normal is “learning hubs”--trusted environments that will help facilitate your child’s distance learning and keep them active, all while making friends in a fun day camp.
Low Risk and Compliant
Our camp follows all CDC and County guidelines that put us in the low-risk category for day camps.
Small Group Size
To maximize our ability to best serve our students and to remain compliant with CDC and County guidelines, we are limiting our cohort group size to only 10 learners.

Team Up with us and your teacher
We will work together with you and your child's teacher to keep them focused and on task while distance learning.
Mindfulness Lessons and Practice
Every day, learners will learn about the concept of Mindfulness, how the brain works under stress, and how to self-regulate to maximize their learning potential.
Japanese Language Lessons
As part of a California Cultural Heritage School, learners will be introduced to basic Japanese Language concepts and writing with opportunities to practice with their peers and native speakers.
Martial Arts Practice
Learners will practice the art of authentic Okinawan Karate and learn under the guidance of Sensei Mike Oliver, a teacher with over 20 years of experience training in karate.
Science Lessons and Experiences
Learners will exposed to a variety of cool science lessons and projects by our head director and facilitator David Mues, an educator with over 30 years of experience here in Sacramento.
Bring your Own Lunch and Water
Learners must come to camp with their own lunch, snacks, and water bottle. We do have a refillable water bottle station, but there is no direct drinking fountain. We cannot provide learners with food.
Grade Appropriate Activities and Reading
For learners that finish their school work early, we can provide additional learning experiences, worksheets, and activities such as puzzles and Lego play.
Educational Games and Film
Every learner has a Chromebook dedicated to them that includes educational video games that can be played during limited times during camp if required work is completed.
Health and Safety
Limited Cohort Size
We are limiting our group to only 10 learners to both accommodate County and CDC Covid-19 guidelines and to ensure your child gets the learning support that they need.
Efficient Drop-off and Pick-Up
We offer curb-side drop off to make your morning fast and efficient. Students enter using the rear entrance of school, down the right side of the building. New parents are welcome to see the facility as well.
Face Coverings Required
All staff and students are required to wear face coverings while indoors. We have extra disposable face masks if needed, but we recommend that you bring your own for comfort. We have a back yard patio area for snacking and for students that need to take a mask break.
Health Screenings are performed upon entry
Everyone that enters the dojo will get screened on entry with a touch-less thermometer. We will ask anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher to leave. Students that show signs of illness such as consistent coughing or sneezing will be asked to leave.
Students practice social distancing
Every student has their own personal workstation space that is distanced from their peers. Martial arts and movement activities are similarly distanced.
Purified Air Filtration System
Our commercial air cleaner and purifier continually refreshes our training floor and classroom air.
Regular Surface Cleanings
In between classes, staff and assistants will disinfect surfaces throughout the dojo, including handles, door knobs, benches, and the training floor.
Hand Sanitizer Stations
We have provided extra hand-sanitizer stations mounted near all entrances and on the training floor. This is in addition to our two bathrooms equipped with soap and water.
Bring your Own Water Bottle
Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles as the drinking fountain will be off-limits to prevent a point of contact.
Greeting with a Bow
In the martial arts, we have a long-standing tradition of greeting each-other with a bow. We will keep this tradition while eliminating hand-shakes and high-fives, reducing our amount of contact.
Optional Outdoor Activities
Weather permitting, we have outdoor activities available such as games in the back patio and walking visits to East Portal Park (about 2 blocks away).
