UBBT and My Lesson From Lisa

A few weeks ago Lisa S. wrote a journal entry about establishing a baseline. It motivated me. I’ve been an athlete for… ever, basically. Still, never occured to me to establish a baseline, a starting point for each new goal. So I started experimenting for what my baseline around the UBBT challenge might be. My biggest concern was around time management. Partner, two kids, work, school… blah, blah, blah, right? But… I pick a race or two or three every year to train for, so, I’m used to dedicating a good bit of time into physical training. I’ve also promised my family I will put school “on hold” for the next 13 months if my free time seems too sparse. Also, I promised to do less races this year.

This year, my race is the UBBT. It’s a totally different race. I don’t train for 7 months to “compete” for 3-4 hours. I train all year to accomplish something that lasts a LONG time. The point is, this “race” is different for me, so a physical baseline is the first step of my mental preparation.

And here it is:

    • 3-4 mile run, 3-4 times a week takes about 30-40 minutes
    • 150 sit-ups in about 5 minutes
    • 150 push ups in about 12 minutes

So here we go. So far so good. Next on the list… mission statement. I’m seeing them pop up as the day goes on and it makes for some good reading. I’m taking notes πŸ™‚
