It is only a few days into our UBBT journey, and I can already see new habits forming, a new way of responding that my body and mind were not used to before. Each of the three days began with a 5:30 gym visit, more consistently than I have ever done this, especially as a confirmed nightowl.
And yet, each of the three days was different as far as the challenges that came along: a moderately busy workday with class in the evening–easily time for all of the physical requirements; an even busier workday with a deadline and social obligation; and a day at home taking care of Michael who had a cold. These provided a good sampling of the schedule challenges that will come along during the year and a great way to test out different strategies of working toward the daily goal. The triceps and hamstrings are letting me know I did what was called for, and that they could use some extra loving.
I am finding the goal of achieving a certain number of acts of kindness per day particularly interesting. Serving others is something I think about quite often, and act on to some extent, but not as much as I should. Looking for more opportunities takes it a step further incorporates the “eye seeing in all directions.” I found myself extending to others more often than I usually do to make their day a little better. I’ve had a couple of cool experiences with this just this past week that make me very excited about this aspect of the year.
