A few people have asked me what books I’m reading, or planning to read. Here is my list in the random order they happen to be stacked in…

The Peacemaker: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict by Ken Sande
Why Bother Being Good? The Place of God in the Moral Life by John Hare

The Essence of Karate by Gichin Funakoshi
The Voice of Knowledge: A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Four Agreements: A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz
Building a Reality-Based Relationship: The Six Stages of Modern Marriage by Liberty Kovacs
Anger Kills: 17 Strategies for Controlling the Hostility That Can Harm Your Health by Redford Williams, M.D. and Virginia Williams, PH.D.
Karate-Do by Gichin Funakoshi
Proverbs by Solomon
Some books are rereads of college texts. Texts I liked, with helpful communication strategies or stress management or self discovery. Others are entirely new. Some others are Christian,or Buddhist, or Toltec, or non religious in any way. Some others are recommendations from someone sometime and the synopsis sounded good. Each book has a specific meaning for me. That is why they made the list. I would recommend all of them simply for that reason: they have value to me. The question is, do they have value for you?
As with all things dojo, Mr. Oliver can make better recommendations for your specific martial arts training. The karate related selections are derived from his expertise.
Good luck to y’all and please comment any of your own book recommendations. I’m always adding to the list… Happy reading.
