Challenges & Opportunities

I honestly do not feel like writing a blog entry today. I do not feel like I have a lot to say or share. But, as to not fall behind on my black-belt requirements (well, except for sparring), here I am.

This morning I ran a 5k to celebrate a friends birthday. It was very nice to run, meet some new people and in the process get asked, “how’d you break your hand?” So far, though others have had broken bones, I’ve an interesting story having broken it sparring during karate training. And, you should see the other guy! HA! (Dad joke, can’t help myself)

The past ~5 weeks or so post broken-hand, I’ve had things that were already challenging for me such as Urashi bo kata become a bit more challenging. But in some ways I like it–the opportunities it presents and how I must adapt, adjust and most importantly, keep training. It is easy sometimes to look at something (with an injury or even when in top shape and healthy) and say, “I can’t.” My attitude and approach is, “I can try!” Embracing a challenge with this mindset DOES lead to opportunities that often present themselves along the way; to maybe see things more clearly in my Urashi Bo kata that I may have not seen without the extra challenge of wearing a cast, and improving on it.

Anyway, as I said, didn’t feel like blogging today so I will stop here.
