This week was packed full of karate and to say I’m tired would be an understatement, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have a ton of fun. Over the weekend I had an in-school sparring tournament here at the dojo on Saturday, and on Sunday I had an out of school full contact tournament. First the in-school, I got first place. Some things I thought I did pretty well with saying in the fight and controlling around the ring. But something I think I need to work on is my stamina, after the 2 minutes I was pretty done. So in the future I want to work on my stamina, that might mean I need to start jump roping every so often or doing something like that. Now for the one on Sunday, I got second place. Some things I thought I did well in this one is being able to stay in the fight after receiving heavy blows, and also being able to throw strong techniques late in the fight. Some things I need to work on are my stamina, and my distance, especially against someone who is taller than me. I need to work on that one because one of my opponents was a good head taller than me and had much longer legs, so I misjudged the distance and took a roundhouse kick to my face, breaking my nose. So in the future I definitely need to be more aware of my distance. Overall the 2 tournaments were a great experience and I’m glad I went.
