A slight cold, some other ailments but got to keep training!

Last week my son came home with a bad cold (not COVID). He was down and out for 2 days. This morning my wife said she had a sore throat and was in bed with a fever. Yesterday (Saturday) I felt a bit of congestion setting in and after our Saturday classes and spending a few hours outside putting up Halloween decorations, I was feeling a bit less energetic than usual. I warned my sparring partner, Dirk-san that I had a slight cold coming on, but we both need to keep our sparring time up and sparred 6 solid rounds this morning.

Last week during some grappling practice I pulled something in my right side abdomen; a sharp stabbing pain when I move or pull my midsection a certain way. I too have been suffering from bursitis and a stained calf muscle but I do feel like both are feeling a bit better and I am not waking up at night with pain in my leg.

My point in sharing these in my blog post is I know others will be coming up for their black belt candidacy and they too will likely have various physical and health ailments (cold, flu, etc.) to navigate. We have to listen to our bodies, know when to rest but most importantly, be willing to push through more minor issues as to keep training.
