Saturday karate class and son’s soccer game
After regular Saturday class today, I left a bit earlier than normal (I usually stay for the weapons class) so I could attend my son’s soccer game. I had not attended one this year before today as I have been so focused and busy working on my karate training that I’d not had the time, made the time to attend one of his games. My son is a senior in High School now; this will be his last year playing teen league soccer at home as next year he’ll likely be attending college somewhere outside of Sacramento (TBD).
Time gets by us! I decided that while my karate training is important, my son and attending at least one of his soccer games is more important. So that is what I did!
Watching him and the other boys on the team play and seeing they’re having fun made me happy. It brought back memories of my earlier years coaching my older boys soccer teams and for 5-6 years living the soccer life in fall. I am honestly happy not coaching these days but get some joy watching my youngest son play and seeing how he has also improved since the last time I saw him play, last year.
Very happy I took the break from my Saturday karate training routine so I could attend his game. Being an engaged and present father in my kids lives is the most important thing I can do and there are times I need to remind myself of that.
