Week 37 – Dirk Herfurth

Family time! My sister Anke is in town from Germany with Lynda, my niece, my sister’s boyfriend René and his son Nick. Full house! I will take some time of work to show them all around California. We went to the usual tourist spots first – the Capitol and Old Town, including breakfast at IHOP. This is the embodiment of American breakfast for Germans – eggs, pancakes, bacon.

Germany right now has 2 weeks school fall break. Unfortunately, US schools don’t which means Tavin cannot join us for some of the day trips. However, we will drive to Santa Cruz and Monterey over the weekend to see this part of California.

These family visits are way to scarce. Covid and pandemic threw an extra wrench in the gears during the last few years. However, last year when I was back in Germany for Christmas, I was right at the beginning of my black belt journey. Of course I explained then what my goal for 2022 is. Now, I can show part of my family my dojo and have them see my practice in person. Just a little over 2 more months to go!
