Another ailment…but pressing on!
It has been a rough past few months for my body. First I had an extended period of painful bursitis in my right foot/heel. It didn’t really bother me too much when exercising or sparring, but would throb at night while trying to sleep and wake me up. It has since gotten better and has thus far not flared up again. During some sparring over a month ago I also compressed my right foot and toes during a kick while sparring. I think I might have connected with someone’s knee but during sparring the adrenaline is running high so I didn’t feel it too much until after. It is still sore but I feel like finally it’s getting better, too.
I have since been struggling with my hamstrings. My right hamstring a month ago was tightening up and I has to stop running during a workout and walk home. After a week of not running (though I’ve continued to spar) my right hamstring pull seemed to clear up but soon thereafter, my left hamstring started to bother me. Again, while I was out for an early evening run I felt ok for the first few miles but then I could feel it tightening. I stopped to stretch but it was too late; my hamstring seized up soon thereafter and once again I had to walk home not finishing my run.
The latest adding insult to injury was during the Thanksgiving Run To Feed The Hungry 10k. I jogged over from my house to the starting line and my hamstring felt Ok. During the first 2.5 miles of the 10k I was running at a decent clip but I then felt my left hamstring tightening up and again, it seized up! For a minute I thought about trying to finish (yep, pride!) but then talked myself out of it knowing I was just doing to do more damage or worse, completely tear my hamstring.
I am trying RICE – Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation but it has yet to result in anything positive. My continuing sparring is probably not helping with my hamstring issue, but so be it. I keep pressing on!
