Every year, the Sacramento International Marathon draws runners from all over the world to participate in the 26.2 mile race. It is always a great opportunity to give back to the running community by volunteering as one of the water stations along the course.
This year, Erik, Charly, Phoenix, Tavin, and I woke up bright and early to set up the station at the dojo. We laid out benches, filled water jugs, and sliced up oranges to provide some much-needed nourishment for the runners as they passed by.
As the runners started to stream past, we cheered them on and offered them water and oranges. It was a great feeling to be able to contribute to the event in a small way, and we all had a lot of fun being part of the action.
But the best part of the day came when two of our dojo members, David san and Ike san, passed by the station. We gave them extra loud cheers and encouragement, and it was great to see them pushing through.
