Lucas Grant: Week 29

I recently finished my second book called “Zen in the Martial Arts’ ‘. This has quickly become one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. There was so much content I could take out of it. This book was about a man named Joe Hyams and his journey through the martial arts in his lifetime. This book goes in depth on his findings in the martial arts and how he applied them to his life. It was very easy to consume and a lot of the topics I remember Sensei talking about. One concept that stood out to me the most was the concept of “it”. “It” is described as your body moving without thinking about moving. For example, if someone were to punch towards my face “it” would be me blocking said punch without giving it a thought, it just happens. In this chapter Joe described his hard time trying to understand “it” and how it happens, he was trying to actively pressure “it” but in reality “it” is an unconscious decision. Overall, I thought this book was great, it was easy to consume, the topics were interesting yet meaningful, and the book itself was worded very nicely.
